When I look at pictures of myself running, I see someone strong, competent and powerful. I don’t see what I feel, which is pain, exhaustion, self-doubt and self-loathing. It’s a powerful thing to see your body doing something challenging, something it couldn’t do a year ago. I’m no running hero and I’ll probably never run a marathon, but when I see me running, I see someone who has picked up the pieces of a broken year and moved the hell on. Maybe not. Maybe I’m still running away from my problems and running in to other ones. Either way, when I see me running, it’s a beautiful thing.
